I take it this wasn’t by choice Richard? I mean, I love the whole "yellowed plastic" look from the old PC speakers, but I can’t imagine that this was a mistake from the company, but rather a limitation placed upon you by someone else?
Let’s just put it this way. One was a $250 solution, and the other was free, using "existing equipment." ;^)
